Tarneeb 400 — the Lebanese variant’s rules
Tarneeb 400 (طرنيب أربعمية) is the Lebanese branch of the family: no auction at all — every player calls their own trick count once, and settlement follows a value table that can reach 40 a hand. It runs live on Tonj’s tables today, on the same provably-fair engine as the classic.

A Tarneeb where nobody wins the auction: each of the four players declares their own call of 2–13 exactly once, the deal is thrown in if the calls total under 11, and each seat settles its own call by the value table — the source of the name’s big numbers.

How a match goes
Call your own tricks
Starting at the dealer’s right, each player calls 2–13 once for themselves — no raising, no passing, four calls and done.
Eleven or it’s a redeal
If the four calls total under 11 the hand is thrown in and redealt — no score. At 11 or more, play begins.
Settle by the value table
Each seat scores its call’s table value when it makes the call — and pays the opponents when it fails. First team to 41 with a partner above zero wins.
Tarneeb 400 rules in detail
The calls (not an auction)
Calls are estimates, not bids: 2–13, exactly one per seat, no raising. Your call commits you alone — tricks you take are counted per seat, not per team.
The redeal under 11
Four calls summing under 11 mean a hand too weak to play: thrown in, redealt by the next dealer, no score — the same gate the Syrian 41 variant uses.
Minimums that rise with your score
As your score climbs, so do the floors: at 0–29 points the minimum call is 2 (total 11); at 30–39 it’s 3 (12); at 40–49 it’s 4 (13); at 50+ it’s 5 (14). Big hands stay honest.
The value table
Settlement is a lookup, not a trick count: 5→10, 6→12, 7→14, 8→16, 9→27, and 10–13→40 — the numbers that gave the variant its name. At 30+ points, 5 and 6 pay face value instead.
The win at 41 — partner above zero
Partner totals form the team standing: a team wins at 41 or more only if its partner is strictly above zero. 41 against a zeroed partner plays on.

| Calls 2–4 | Face value — 2, 3, 4 |
|---|---|
| Calls 5–8 | 10 · 12 · 14 · 16 |
| Call 9 | 27 |
| Calls 10–13 | 40 each — the 400 zone |
Failed calls pay the table value to the opposing side. At 30+ team points the ladder raises the floors (3–5, totals 12–14) and 5–6 pay face value.
Frequently asked questions
Why is it called Tarneeb 400?
From the settlement table: big calls pay 40 a hand, and a strong match’s values climb into the hundreds — the Lebanese variant’s scoreboard made the name.
Can I play Tarneeb 400 online for free?
Yes — Tarneeb 400 runs live on Tonj: choose the 400 ruleset when creating a table, free from the browser, with bots filling any empty seat.
Are the calls an auction?
No — each player calls their own trick count (2–13) exactly once. There is no winner of an auction; every seat settles its own call.
When is a hand redealt in 400?
When the four calls total under 11 (at fresh scores). The hand is thrown in with no score and the next dealer deals — the minimums rise as scores climb.
What does the partner condition mean?
The win at 41 counts only if your partner’s own score is above zero — a lone rocket to 41 with a zeroed partner keeps the match alive.
