Masrawy — the Egyptian Tarneeb’s rules
Masrawy (طرنيب مصري) is the Egyptian voice of the Tarneeb family: the bid names the number AND the suit, ties break by suit rank, the داكة weak hand forces a big opening, and the دبل doubles everything. It runs live on Tonj’s tables — same classic engine, Egyptian settlement.

A Tarneeb where the auction is richer: every bid carries value and suit (7♠, 8♥…), an equal number breaks by suit rank, passing never ends your bidding rights, and the settlement doubles under the دبل — racing to 31 or 41.

How a match goes
Bid the number and the suit
A bid is 7–13 with a tarneeb suit attached; a new bid must beat the high one — a higher number, or an equal number in a stronger suit.
Break ties by the ladder
Equal numbers break ♠ > ♣ > ♥ > ♦ (سنك > بستوني > كبّة > ديناري). A 13♠ bid outranks everything and ends the auction on the spot.
Double or deliver
A rival may double the hand (دبل): both directions ×2 at settlement. Make the bid to score its tricks — fail and the bid is subtracted, doubled.
Masrawy rules in detail
The bid carries the suit
Unlike classic Tarneeb there is no separate trump pick: the winning bid’s suit IS the tarneeb, and the high bidder leads.
The suit ladder
An equal number is beaten by the stronger suit: ♠ > ♣ > ♥ > ♦. So 8♠ outranks 8♥, and nothing outranks 13♠.
A pass keeps you alive
Passing doesn’t end your bidding rights: any raise reopens the auction to everyone, and the auction closes on three passes since the last bid.
The داكة (the weak hand)
A hand worth ≤ 4 points (Q 4, K 3, J 2, 10 1) is a dakka: its team may not bid below 8 tricks, and the opponents may enter only on 11♠ or 12+. Tonj detects it automatically.
The دبل and the settlement
A non-bidding seat may double once: settlement ×2 both ways. Scoring is classic — made bids score their tricks, failed bids subtract, kaboot 26, an unbid sweep 16, a failed 13 −16.
Masrawy scoring at a glance
| Bid made | The declaring team scores its trick count (×2 doubled) |
|---|---|
| Bid failed | The bid subtracts; the defenders score their tricks (×2 doubled) |
| Kaboot / sweep | Kaboot 26 · unbid sweep 16 · failed 13 → −16 (before doubling) |
| The match | 31 by default (41 allowed) — classic win rules |
Out-of-call: a seat holding 9+ cards of one suit becomes the ONLY bidder allowed into that auction — everyone else passes. The engine enforces it on the bid panel.
Frequently asked questions
What is Masrawy Tarneeb?
The Egyptian Tarneeb: every bid carries its number and its suit, ties break by suit rank, passes never exit the auction, and the داكة and دبل reshape weak and brave hands alike — to 31 or 41.
Can I play Masrawy online for free?
Yes — Masrawy runs live on Tonj: pick the Egyptian ruleset at table creation, play free from the browser with friends or bots.
What is the suit order in Masrawy?
For breaking equal bids: ♠ (سنك) > ♣ (بستوني) > ♥ (كبّة) > ♦ (ديناري). An 8♠ beats an 8♥; a 13♠ beats everything and ends the auction.
What is the داكة in Masrawy?
A hand worth 4 points or fewer (Q 4, K 3, J 2, 10 1). Its team must open at 8+ tricks, the opponents need 11♠ or 12+ to enter — and Tonj detects the dakka automatically.
What does the دبل do?
A rival seat doubles the hand once: settlement ×2 in both directions — a braver contract pays double, a failed one bleeds double.
