Trix Complex — the rules of the combined mode

Trix Complex (تركس كمبلكس) is the compact Jawaker version of Trix: the same four kingdoms, but each hosts only two contracts — the combined “complex” hand where every penalty counts together, and the Trex layout — 8 deals instead of 20. On Tonj it is a live table mode; this page is its complete rulebook.

What is Trix Complex?

Trix Complex is Trix with the session folded in half: 4 kingdoms × 2 contracts = 8 deals. The complex hand deals all the penalties together — every trick costs its slam plus any diamonds, queens and the King of Hearts inside it — and the Trex layout pays the finishing order.

Trix Complex on Tonj — live

Complex is a mode of Tonj’s Trix tables: pick it when creating a table (Kingdoms is the default). The kingdom host orders the contracts, doubling rides one secret declare, and every deal settles exactly like the engine’s score sheet — provably fair, bots and spectators welcome.

How a match goes

  1. The 7♥ hosts the first kingdom

Whoever is dealt the 7 of hearts hosts kingdom one and picks which of the two contracts opens; hosting then passes to the right until all four kingdoms are done — 8 deals in total.

  2. One trick, every penalty inside

The complex deal is one trick-taking hand where a trick costs its capturer −15, plus −10 per diamond, −25 per queen and −75 for the King of Hearts — a K♥ with two diamonds lands as −110 in one strike.

  3. The layout, then the count

The Trex contract builds the Jack-anchored rows for +200/+150/+100/+50, doubling rides one secret declare revealed at settlement, and the highest total after 8 deals wins.

Trix Complex rules in detail

The session skeleton

Four players, 13 cards each, no trump anywhere. The 7♥ holder hosts kingdom one; each kingdom’s host picks which contract goes first and leads both of them; hosting passes right — 4 kingdoms × 2 contracts = 8 deals.

The complex deal — combined penalties

One trick-taking hand, all 13 tricks played, every penalty counted together on every trick: the trick −15, each diamond inside −10, each queen −25, the King of Hearts −75. A fully undoubled hand distributes exactly −500, paid back by the layout’s +500.

The secret declare (doubling)

Before the first lead, holders of the K♥ and/or a queen mark which penalty cards to double — one joint, secret decision. Declarations stay hidden until the deal settles: the doubled card costs double (K♥ −150, Q −50) and the doubler collects the original value (+75 / +25).

The Trex layout

Four rows anchored on the Jacks — jacks always playable, a card joins only beside its placed neighbour, must-play-if-able, pass only with nothing playable. The hand runs until all 52 cards are placed: +200, +150, +100, +50 by finishing order.

Kingdoms, Complex and partners

Kingdoms — the classic: 5 contracts × 4 kingdoms = 20 deals. Complex — 8 deals with the combined hand. And a partners flag sums seats 0&2 against 1&3 at game end, crowning the higher team.

Trix Complex scoring at a glance

Each trick taken−15 to its capturer
Each diamond captured−10 each — they ride inside the tricks
Each queen captured−25 each — −50 if doubled
The King of Hearts−75 — −150 if doubled; the doubler banks the original value
The Trex layout+200 / +150 / +100 / +50 by finishing order

The math is zero-sum: an undoubled session puts −500 on the table across the complex deals and pays exactly +500 back through the layout — the highest total after 8 deals wins.

Frequently asked questions

What is Trix Complex?

The compact Jawaker mode of Trix: 4 kingdoms × 2 contracts = 8 deals. One contract is the combined trick-taking hand where every penalty counts together; the other is the Trex layout. The highest total wins.

Can I play Trix Complex online for free?

Yes — Trix Complex is a free mode of the Trix tables on Tonj, right in the browser: create a Trix table, pick Complex as the mode, and share the invite link or let the bots fill the seats.

How is Trix Complex different from regular Trix?

Regular (Kingdoms) Trix plays each of the five contracts separately — 20 deals. Complex folds the penalties into one hand (tricks + diamonds + queens + K♥ together) and hosts only two contracts per kingdom — 8 deals.

How does doubling work in Trix Complex?

One joint, secret decision before the first lead: holders of the K♥ or a queen mark what to double. At settlement the doubled card costs double (−150 / −50) and its doubler collects the original value (+75 / +25); slams and diamonds never double.

How much is a complex hand worth?

A fully undoubled complex hand distributes exactly −500 across the players — the mirror of the layout’s +500 — so a session always settles at zero; skill moves the total between seats.
