Bid from 7 to 13

Each player bids a higher number or passes; the highest bid wins and names the trump. A bid of 13 takes the auction outright.
Collect tricks and make your bid

Your team needs at least as many tricks as the bid to score them — take all 13 for a «kaboot» worth 26 points.

Tarneeb rules in detail

Players and teams

A 52-card deck and four players in two fixed teams: you and the partner across from you against the other two. Each player is dealt 13 cards, and the dealer rotates every hand.

The auction

Bidding opens after the deal: a bid is a number from 7 to 13 that must beat the current high bid, or you pass. Three passes seal the highest bid, and a bid of 13 ends it immediately. If everyone passes, the hand is redealt with no score.

The tarneeb (trump)

The auction winner — the declarer — names the trump suit: Spades, Hearts, Diamonds or Clubs. The highest trump beats every other card; the suit is called «the tarneeb», and the game is named after it.

Tricks

The declarer leads the first trick, and you must follow the led suit if you can. The highest trump wins the trick — otherwise the highest card of the led suit — and the winner leads the next. Thirteen tricks per hand.

Scoring and winning

If the declaring team takes at least as many tricks as their bid, they score that number; if they fall short, the bid is subtracted instead. The defenders always score their own tricks. Taking all 13 tricks is a kaboot worth 26. First team to 41 points wins.

Bots keep the table alive
