Ronda online — rules and how to play
Ronda is Morocco’s card classic, played in cafes from Casablanca to Marrakech: a 40-card duel where matching a card on the floor captures it and everything up the ladder behind it. Chain your matches for the calls — bwahad, bkhamsa, beshara — sweep the floor for a maysa, and the most cards plus bonuses wins the hand. On Tonj you play ronda online right in the browser: no download, a live rival or a bot.
Play ronda nowWhat is ronda?
A matching-and-capture game for two players over 40 cards (Ace, 2–7, Jack, Queen, King — no 8s, 9s or 10s). Suits never matter: every turn you match a floor card and capture it with its whole ladder walk, or leave your card on the floor. One hand of 40 cards is the whole match — most points wins.
Ronda on Tonj
Two seats, one hand, a 30-second clock and a capture-hungry bot if your rival drops. The opening floor is always four distinct ranks — and every deal carries a cryptographic shuffle receipt published before play.
How a match goes
Match and walk the ladder
Playing a card that matches a floor rank captures EVERY card of that rank, then walks UP the ladder A→2→3→4→5→6→7→J→Q→K — the 7 bridges straight to the J — taking each occupied rank until one is missing. The capture is forced: every card plays.
Call your streak
Match the immediately previous play and the run pays: the second consecutive same-rank play is bwahad (+1), the third bkhamsa (+5), the fourth beshara (+10). Any different rank resets the run.
Maysa, qa’a and the count
A play that captures the whole floor is a maysa (+1). The hand’s last card is always the dealer’s: a King pays the dealer +5 (qa’a Rey), an Ace pays his rival +5 (qa’a As). Final score = captured cards + call bonuses — the higher total wins.
Ronda rules in detail
The deal
40 cards: three to the non-dealer, three to the dealer, then four face-up on the floor — the floor must hold four distinct ranks, never a pair or a four-card run, and offending cards are buried into the stock. Both hands empty? Three fresh cards each, six deals in all. The non-dealer leads; there is no passing.
The capture ladder
A 6 played over a floor of {A, 6, 7, J} takes the 6s, then walks up: the 7s, then the Jacks — but not the Queens, because the ladder stops at the first missing rank. The walk only goes upward, and the 7 connects straight to the J (the Spanish deck’s 10 is the bridge).
The calls: bwahad, bkhamsa, beshara
Consecutive same-rank plays pay on the spot: 2nd in a row +1 (bwahad), 3rd +5 (bkhamsa), 4th +10 (beshara). The run survives refills — only a different rank breaks it. With four copies of each rank, beshara is the ceiling.
Maysa — the sweep
A play that leaves the floor empty is a maysa: +1 on top of everything the capture already took. Sweep with the ladder’s top and you bank the capture, the maysa and often a call in one strike.
Qa’a and the settlement
The hand’s 36th and final card is always the dealer’s: if it is a King the dealer scores +5 (qa’a Rey); if an Ace, his rival scores +5 (qa’a As). Leftover floor cards go to the last player who captured. Score = captured cards + call bonuses; an exact tie is a shared hand.
The ronda bonus table
| Every captured card | 1 point |
|---|---|
| Bwahad — 2nd consecutive match | +1 |
| Bkhamsa — 3rd consecutive match | +5 |
| Beshara — 4th consecutive match | +10 |
| Maysa — the sweep | +1 |
| Qa’a Rey / Qa’a As | +5 |
Score = captured cards + bonuses, one hand of 40 decides it, and an exact tie is a draw.
Frequently asked questions
What is the ronda card game?
Ronda is Morocco’s classic matching game for two players: match a floor card to capture it and everything up the ladder behind it (the 7 bridges to the J), chain matches for the bwahad/bkhamsa/beshara calls, and sweep the floor for a maysa. Most cards plus bonuses wins.
Can I play ronda online for free?
Yes — tonj.online runs right in your browser with no download: start as a guest in seconds, against a live rival or the bot.
What does bwahad (بن واحد) mean in ronda?
It is the call for the second consecutive same-rank play: +1 on the spot. The third consecutive match calls bkhamsa (+5) and the fourth beshara (+10) — any different rank resets the run.
What is a maysa in ronda?
A maysa is the sweep: a play that captures the whole floor at once, worth +1 beyond the cards themselves.
How does a game of ronda end?
After the six 3+3 deals the hand ends: the dealer’s final card pays qa’a (+5 to the dealer for a King, +5 to the rival for an Ace), leftover floor cards go to the last capturer, and the higher total of cards + bonuses wins — an exact tie is a draw.
